Fattening up for the winter.

Hello blog, I need to keep up with you more regularily!
Life has been swell, I would suppose. Very busy with the semester, being a part time ninja, and have recently taken on a new project for next month. I will be attending my first local Market Collective as a vendor, which is pretty rad news. What will I be selling, you ask? My vegan bakes! I have been working hard trying to figure out what I'll bring along. Likely some chocolates, nanaimo bars, ginger snaps, anti-Valentine's cookies, some classics, some cupcakes in varieties such as cookie's n creme, toasted coconut, carrot ginger, some butter tarts. So much going down. I have become a big fan of taking on too much at once and thriving on that pressure. So, here's to preparing dozens of dozens of baked goods next month all alone. For a good cause too, I am working with some of my favourite animal conversation fronts to bring information along with me, and hope to make a small donation to a few based on my proceeds. Those will remained unmentioned until confirmed.
So, I guess the holidays just happened, so I am going to talk about how much I absolutely adore winter. Not only for the beautiful snowy weather and excuses to bundle up and then curl up inside here in Canada. Winter is also an excuse to fatten up like crazy! Home cooked, slow cooked soups, chilis, curries, warmth. Stovetop chai, made with all of the spices of life. Lots of makeshift dinner parties with my friends lately. Last night was Veganomicon's gorgeous Potato and Kale Soup, with stovetop masala chai. It was topped off with GREAT DEPRESSION CHOCOLATE CAKE. Which is pretty hilarious. My friends wanted to make something vegan, and apparently all they could find was "Great Depression Cake," which essentially implies it came from a time in the 30s when many did not have access to egg and dairy products. It was dense and tasty and chocolatey and icing-less. I did lots of baking over the holidays to share with my family and friends as well; Festivus dark chocolate walnut fudge, Atheist gingerbread men, pretty little gingersnaps, a pumpkin pseudo cheesecake experimentation going tastily right, veganized my madre's notorious buttertart recipe, and played lots more. I've included some pictures, and am working on recalling the recipes as we speak.
I hope everyone else is well, and I'd love to share our favourite winter recipes, if anyone is out there. <3
